Safe as Houses plays
Three musicians from the Auckland-based band, Avant Garden, form the nucleus of Safe as Houses, who will perform on March 12-15 as part of the Christchurch Festival. Ivan Zagni, a British guitarist and composer, came to New Zealand in 1981. He has a background in classical orchestra and choir music and in jazz. Peter Scholes is a woodwind player and composer who has played in regional orchestras and groups in Auckland. He has also been involved in con-
temporary bands and has composed for theatre groups and radio. Don McGlashan, the drummer and sometime singer with Blam Blam Blam, and Steve Garden, who has most recently worked with Limbs Dance Company, complete the lineup. Safe as Houses’ four performances will be in the Great Hall (March 12 and 15) and in the City Mall and Cathedral Square, on March 13 and 14, as part of the Fringe Festival.
