Immigration Bill
Sir,-As a long-serving member of the Automobile Association, I must say L. Bush (February 23) is not exaggerating when he> warns of the identity proposals of the Immigration Bill. Our national council decided a short time ago that there was little benefit to motorists from having a photograph on their licences. These people have studied this subject in depth. I wonder what the real reasons are for the identity card provisions in the hili—Yours, etc., D. D. LIVINGSTONE. March 3, 1984.
Sir—Comments by L. Bush (March 3) on the Immigration Bill were puzzling. He seemed to be upset at the thought of us having to cany identity papers, which in my mind is a good thing, taking into account the number of illegal immigrants at present in this country who need to be flushed out The bill protects the interests of New Zealand and New Zealanders. The bill is not at all threatening to Australian and New Zealand citizens. — Yours, etc., DESMOND DEAN. March 4, 1984.
