Research on emphysema
It is becoming clear that the lung condition, emphysema, results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Emphysema is the condition where the lungs lose their elasticity so that sufferers can breathe in but not out. Research by Dr Robin Carrell of Christchurch Hospital has revealed just how that elasticity is lost and how genetic factors join with environmental pollution to cause it Dr Carrell will describe his findings on “8.8. C. Science Magazine” on the Concert programme at 7.30 tonight
