Man killed in boat
A Picton man, aged 80, died off Waikawa Bay, skm north-east of Picton, when the boat in which he was travelling caught fire and sank yesterday. His name had not been released by the Picton police last evening. His body was recovered from the burning boat. The boat, a cabin cruiser, caught fire about 200 metres offshore.
Another man, aged about 50, also of Picton, was thrown into the water and rescued by another boat which was nearby. The police had not released his name last evening. He was not injured. The cabin cruiser was destroyed and finally sank. The Picton police believe the fire started in the boat’s engine.
