Mailman killed
PA Waimate A Waimate rural mailman was killed instantly on Monday when an irrigation pipe he was holding touched a high-tension 11,000-volt cable. He was Eric Andrew Wallace, aged 50. Mr Wallace was shifting irrigation pipes at Studholme when one pipe made contact with the wire. A man died in Southland Hospital from injuries suffered in a motor accident near Lumsden early on Sunday morning. He was Harold Bartlett Ingram, aged 32, of Lumsden. Mr Ingram was the driver of a car that ran off the road on a section of new construction, about a kilometre west of the combined road-rail bridge on the Lumsden-Te Anau road
