Floods hit Southland
Flash floods hit parts of Southland on Monday night while a 45-minute electrical storm swept over Te Anau. But no big flooding occurred in Invercargill, inundated by floodwaters in January. The Oreti River, which peaked at 2.46 m above normal during January, rose just under Im. The Southland Catchment Board flood warning officer, Mr Leslie McGraw, said the deluge affected an area about 60km by 18km, mainly in the western high country.
