Extras for cabaret

Christchurch Festival

The Christchurch Festival Cabaret will be extended tonight and tomorrow night with the addition of two acts.

Polyphony, the Australian comic vocal harmony group, will make a return appearance at the cabaret tomorrow night, after the advertised performance by River. River, an Americanborn mime artist, clown, dancer, juggler, and fireeater will make one of his rare New Zealand appearances about 11 p.m. His act will be followed by Polyphony, and some time after midnight, the Auckland comedienne, Brenda Kendall, will perform, making up a triple bill. Tonight, there will be another triple bill: Stiff Glue, a high-energy, satirical trio who send up anything from Merivale mothers to modern music; Steve Thomas, a

Welsh-born entertainer, humorist and performance poet who toured New Zealand with his successful show “The Tupperware Party”; and Brenda Kendall. Her appearances at the cabaret are instead of her scheduled show in the Centre Gallery this week. As well as appearing at the Cabaret tomorrow, Polyphony will visit two schools this week — Darfield High School and Rangi Ruru Girls’ School — and will give two free performances in Cathedral Square at lunchtime today and tomorrow.
