No play possible
PA Invercargill Play was impossible on the first day of the OtagoCentral Districts Shell Trophy cricket match in Invercargill yesterday as rain fell throughout the day. The match umpires, Fred Goodall and Neil Tapper, made their decision to abandon play at 3.30 p.m. Frustration was felt all round, with both teams realising their chances of scoring vital match points have slipped away. .
For Central Districts the weather must be particularly annoying after their Vain-affected match against Auckland at Nelson last week-end. One bright spot in the day was the performance of the Southland Cricket Association’s new mobile covers. The $BOOO covers have been in use for only three weeks and yesterday seemed to have kept the wicket block free of any damp spots.
