Search to resume today
PA Auckland A search for four Wanganui people missing in a light aircraft will resume south of Auckland today, said a police spokesman yesterday. Inspector Barry Wallace said about 50 people would search an area south of Port Waikato. An official search for the aircraft, a Piper Cherokee which disappeared 10 days ago between Wanganui and Ardmore, south of Auckland, was called off last week.
The police had decided to resume the search after requests by relatives of the missing people. “The land search teams are. going to cover some areas that are impossible to check thoroughly from the air,” he said. Limestone covers the area, which is full of caverns and holes. Ropes are deeded to get into many of ttfe gullies.
