Cost of car parking
Sir,—Congratulations to the Christchurch City Council for finally solving the city’s parking problem. Parking spaces abound, on most afternoons in Lichfield Street you would swear it was Sunday afternoon. The reason is that no-one can afford to park in the city any longer. The council has driven shoppers out of the city and made business in the city extremely expensive. No matter how many five and 10 cent pieces you feed those greedy meters, the moment you turn your back the flag falls and one of those over-vigilant, overdressed officials slaps another $4 fee on your windscreen. It is imperative that we get rid of the cycle-riding councillors and replace them with a few motorists. — Yours, etc., LANCE STEWART. February 24, 1984.
