Railmen defer strike
The Railways Corporation has agreed to investigate a number of grievances of railways employees at the Addington Workshops. Early this month the Addington branch of the Railway Tradesmen’s Association gave the Railways Corporation 14 days notice of intended industrial action. The notice was given mainly because the branch was not satisfied that the corporation’s head office was doing enough to get work for the workshops. The branch secretary, Mr Royce Broderick, said yesterday that the notice of action had been put in abeyance while the corporation prepared an interim report on matters raised by the association in meetings this month _
