Peter Renner sets course record
Peter Renner (New Brighton) set a course record in the final race of the Lion Brown-St Martins skm running series at North Hagley Park, Christchurch last evening. Renner’s time of 14min 13s was 20s better than the record he set two weeks ago. His improvement came partly because of the extra competition he had last evening with Tom Birnie (New Brighton) competing for the first time. The pair took the lead on the second of the three laps and ran together until Renner sprinted with about 300 m to run and. Birnie could not respond. Kevin O’Sullivan (University), also running his first race in the series, finished third after leading on
the first lap, while two previous race winners, Dave Macdonald (Olympic) and Mel Radcliffe (New Brighton) were fourth and fifth.
