Quarantine station advocated
PA Auckland The National Bloodstock Corporation has called for the building of a quarantine station close to Auckland Airport. The request follows the death on February 21 of an American-based standardbred colt after a drawn-out flight from the United States.
The managing director, of the corporation, Mr David Phillips, who was in Wellington lobbying the Govern-
ment for a quarantine station, said: “The company is prepared to present proposals for the construction and operation of a quarantine facility to service all of New Zealand imported bloodstock and livestock arriving at Auckland Airport.” He hoped the station would be in use before the arrival of the corporation’s $1 million stallion, Soky’s Atom, from the United States later this year.
