Aust, gold stocks up
NZPA Sydney Rising domestic interest rates eroded industrial stocks while miners prospered on higher metal prices in quiet trading on Australian stock exchanges yesterday. Demand for energy issues was evident but Turtle One well partners returned mixed performances. At 3 p.m. the all-ordinaries index was 1.7 points up at 767.4, with the all-resources ahead 4.4 points at 570.3, but the all-industrials was down 1.8 points at 1015.9. Gold , stocks firmed on the higher physical price with Emperor up 30c at 300, GMK up 10c at 950, and Poseidon up 28c at 430.
CRA added 6c to 556. Bougainville at 252 and WMC at 430 were both 10c up.
