Rise in paper prices likely
PA Auckland Increases in newspaper prices and advertising rates are inevitable after an expected increase of up to 38 per cent in the price of newsprint, says the chairman of the newspaper committee of the Newspaper Publishers’ Association, Mr H. M. Horton.
The Tasman Pulp and Paper Company, which wants to increase the price of newsprint from $545 a tonne to $725, has applied to the Trade and Industry Department for the increase. Mr Horton said the sequel would be increased prices of newspapers and higher advertising charges. An agreement between Tasman and the Newspaper Publishers’ Association was signed in 1966, but substantially updated in 1974. It expired in December.
