Full fleece prices up
PA Napier Prices for full fleece were in sellers’ favour at the Napier wool sale yesterday, compared with the Invercargill sale on Monday. Compared with the Auckland sale of January 27, second-shear was 2.5 per cent dearer, first lambs were fully 2.5 per cent dearer, second lambs 2.5 to 5 per cent up, and oddments 10 per cent dearer.
About 36,000 bales were on offer, 36 per cent fleece wool, 17 per cent early shorn, 32 per cent lamb’s wool, and 15 per cent oddments. The fleece on offer was mainly later shorn clips and in the main tender, webby, and cotted. Colour was generally good.
Most lambs’ wool was generally good coloured, and well prepared. Colour of oddments was much better than expected. Principal competition was provided by east and west-
ern Europe supported by Japan, China, New Zealand carpet mills, and the Far East on lambs.
The adjusted weighted average sale price was 314.18 a kilogram, said the Wool Board. Based on this, a Government Supplementary Payment of 1.9 per cent would apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight, February 1, to midnight, February 2.
The market indicator was 314 c.
