Clive Lloyd to stay on

NZPA-Reuter Kingston, Jamaica

Clive Lloyd will continue as the West Indies cricket captain for the five-match test series against Australia in the Caribbean starting later this month.

The decision by the West Indies Cricket Board of Control (W.1.C.8.C.) was announced yesterday. Lloyd recently captained West Indies triumphantly in India, where his team won the six-test series, 3-0, and made a clean sweep in the

five limited overs games. He is now leading the team in the one-day World Series Cup in Australia. Lloyd has played in 96 tests and has captained West Indies in a world record 60. Peter May, who led England 41 times, is next best.

When the title-holders, West Indies, were beaten by India in the one-day World Cup final at Lord’s last June, Lloyd said he was retiring as captain, but West Indian officials persuaded him to change his mind.
