Schoolboy invented windsurfer
NZPA-Reuter London
A schoolboy, aged 12, who dreamt up a makeshift sailing craft during a seaside holiday in 1958, has been declared by a British court to be the inventor of the windsurfer.
The ruling by the Appeal Court in London that Peter Chilver’s experimental design was the forerunner of the modern windsurfer dealt a blow to a Californian company.
Windsurfing International Inc. claimed that a British firm, Tabur Marine, was infringing its 1968 British patent by selling windsurfers similar to its own.
