Seminar on violence
Helping people cope with their own violence is the subject of a Christchurch seminar, to be held on February 8, for professional counsellors.
About 65 people have registered for the seminar, run by Messrs Tim Williams and Ken McMaster, who started “anger management” courses for men with violent behavioural problems'
Mr Williams said the two courses to date had had the expected varied success but they wanted to pass on the techniques used to others working in the same field.
“We all encounter a lot of anger but violence and anger may be one area where professionals are not quite so skilled,” he said.
Those attending next week include social workers, marriage guidance counsellors, prison chaplains, and some involved in alcohol treatment. Others had to be turned away because the seminar was booked out. Another might be held later in the year.
