Borderdales exported
Two Borderdale stud rams are among 17 sheep which will leave Christchurch today for Australia. They will be the first Borderdale sheep from New Zealand to be exported.
The Borderdale Society was registered eight years ago and the first export of sheep was regarded as a coming of age for the breed, said the president, Mr P. R. Jebson, of Sheffield.
The Borderdale rams, one from Rosalind Robinson, of Ashburton, and the other from Brian Chamberlain, of Ellesmere, will be used in a
commercial flock of Gromark sheep in Victoria. Gromarks have been bred in a similar manner to Borderdales, using Border Leicesters and Corriedales. The Gromark owner wants New Zealand Borderdale
rams to put more cover on the heads of his sheep and to provide stronger wool. Mr D. G. A. Cassells, of Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd, said the consignment to Australia will also include
one Perendale ram and five ewes; one Coopworth ram and six ewes; one Romney ram and one Border Leicester ram.
