Bus stops at four schools

Some Christchurch school pupils will be able to take advantage of a bus service starting today. Leaving at 7.40 a.m. each week day, one bus only will depart from Rockinghorse Road, in South Shore, and travel to Avonside Girls’ High School via New Brighton, Parklands, Mairehau, Shirley, and Richmond. The service is largely an extension of one run by the Christchurch Transport Board last year, but it now takes in Estuary Road, Oram Avenue, Seaview Road, Hawke Street, Keyes Road, and Rookwood Avenue. During its 40-mijiute journey, the bus will stop at Mairehau High School, Shirley Boys’ High School, Marian College, and Avonside Girls’ High School. The return journey will leave Avonside Girls’ High School at 3.30 p.m. and follow a similar route, arriving in Rockinghorse Road about 4.15 p.m.

If the service proves popular, the Transport Board will consider putting more buses on the route.
