Batting slump brings loss

PA New Plymouth Central Districts pace bowlers Gary Robertson and Derek Stirling led their side to a crushing victory over Canterbury in the Shell Trophy cricket match at New Plymouth’s Pukekura Park on Saturday. Set 336 to win, Canterbury was bundled out for 150 in its second innings with Robertson taking three wickets for 41 and Stirling three for 40. The collapse began with the dismissal of an opening batsman Alan Devlin, who was caught at third slip by Ron Hart off the bowling of Stirling. His dismissal was just the first in a series of dismissals which saw a number of Canterbury batsmen playing loose shots outside the off stump. Central won the match by 185 runs and took the maximum 16 points to put it back into contention in the competition. CENTRAL DISTRICTS First innings 356/2 dec. Second innings I.
