Value of labour

Sir,—Like Jill Wilcox (January 25), I was offended by Keith Wignail’s statement that different work has different values; but that is what we have allowed to happen. All people are of equal worth and all roughly have the same basic needs. Society needs all work done, therefore all work should have an equal value. To say that certain work is more valuable than another is a shabby way to avoid facing a bad conscience about greed and selfishness, about not caring about the poor and disadvantaged in our society. — Yours, etc., S. BERNSTEIN. January 25, 1984.
