Kiri’s show too dear for New Zealand
A Boxing Day special television programme with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa as host will not be shown in New Zealand. . The show, “Kiri and Friends,” was the opera star’s second Christmas television show. It was shown in Britain, and featured Thomas Allen and Dmitris Sgouros, the 14-year-old Greek pianist. Television New Zealand’s
head of programme planning, Mr Barry Parkin, said TVNZ had tried to get the show but the 8.8. C. would not clear it for release in New Zealand. This was because it was out of TVNZ’s price range, he said. “The price charged by artists in the show was so high that we would have to pay well above our normal rate to get it,” he said.
