Award to Patsy Riggir
NZPA-AAP Tamworth, N.S.W. A New Zealander, Patsy Riggir, won the female vocalist of the year award at the twelfth Australian country music awards last evening with “Beautiful Lady.” Song of the Year was an Adelaide band, Red Gum’s “I Was Only Nineteen,” written by the band’s lead singer, John Schumann. The king of traditional country music, Slim Dusty, won two awards including Country Music Album of the Year for his “Australia’s on the Wallaby” album. The male vocal winner was Queensland’s Arthur Blanch with “I’ve Come a Long Way.” The awards were broadcast live through a network of more than 100 radio stations in Australia and New Zealand.
