Meat export company set up

NZPA-Reuter Tokyo New Zealand will set up a wholly owned company, Asian New Zealand Meat Company, Ltd, next month to export its sheepmeat to Japan as a sole agency, trade house officials said. A.N.Z.C.O. has already designated four Japanese trade houses — KanematsuGosho, Ltd, C. Itoh and Company, Marubeni' Corporation, and Itoman and Company — as agents. The aim of the new company will be to expand sheepmeat sales to Japan. New Zealand plans to sell beef through the firm at a later date. A.N.Z.C.O. will also act as sole agency for the export of sheepmeat to Hong Kong and Taiwan. Japan annually imports about 85,000 tonnes of sheepmeat, of which more than 50,000 are from'New Zealand.
