Gammalite fit for Auckland

NZPA-AAP Melbourne The million-dollar pacer Gammalite is favourite for the $295,000 Inter-Dominion championships starting in Adelaide on February 11. Gammalite, the iron horse of Australian harness racing, was made the 2-1 favourite to win his second Inter-Dominion after his brilliant win in the $60,000 Freemantle Cup in Perth on Friday evening. Before contesting the Inter-Dominion series, Gammalite is off to New Zealand to attempt to win his second Auckland Cup on Friday night. “We’ll fly him out on Wednesday at noon and he’ll arrive in New Zealand at 10 p.m.,” Leo O’Connor said from Perth yesterday. “If the flight doesn’t take too much out of him he’ll take some beating on Friday night,” O’Connor said. O'Connor said that on returning to Australia, Gammalite would head straight for Adelaide.
