Mediocre scoring in women’s matches
Low scoring was the order of the day when senior women's cricket resumed on Saturday. Sydenham began its match against Lancaster Park at a considerable disadvantage — it had just nine players. Sydenham declared at 112 for six, the run rate dropping markedly after the loss of its openers. Nicki Turner and Mary Campbell both reached 40. At stumps, Lancaster Park had lost four first-innings wickets for 128, the highlight being a good 56 by Jenny Olson. Riccarton, batting first against St Albans, was without its captain, Lesley Murdoch,
and Mary Clinton, who are away with hockey commitments. Sue Rattray’s fine innings of 61 enabled Riccarton to reach 126. Karen Hadlee, with three wickets, was St Albans most successful bowler. St Albans had got as far as 118 for six off 52 overs by stumps. Results.—
Sydenham 112/6 (N. Turner 42, M. Campbell 43; R. Millichip 2/19, D. Hockley 2/29, C. Keenan 2/24) met Lancaster Park 128/4 (J. Olsen 56, V. Cowles 14 not out). Riccarton 126 (S. Rattray 61, J. Slade 28; B. Legg 2/36, C. Campbell 2/31, K. Hadlee 3/32) met St Albans 118/6 (Campbell 59).
