Hospital funding
Sir,—On December 22 you reported that the North Canterbury Hospital Board could lose up to $3 million in Government funding. Since then I have watched your correspondence columns, but apparently no one has protested about these cuts. Of course ?3 million does not amount to much to wealthy Christchurch citizens, whereas the proposed $2 million cut to Marlborough is a blow below the belt; the crowning insult being the reduction in funding because of the opening of a 40-bed private hospital in Blenheim.—Yours, etc., H. F. NEWMAN. - January 8, 1984.
