Disarmament
Sir,—The six letters printed under the heading “Disarmament” (“The Press,” January 6), contained not a line on that theme. Instead of rational discussion, we see people pushing, pulling, tugging, chopping, and twisting facts to suit emotionally desirable conclusions. Since 1945, 30 million people have been killed in wars. Who supplies the weapons (often to both sides) to make this carnage possible? The good old peace-loving United States accounts for 43.3 per cent of the world arms trade with the “evil empire” (U.S.S.R.) lagging behind with 27.4 per cent. France supplies 10.8 per cent and the United Kingdom, West Germany and Italy
