Four-stroke lead by golf team
PA Dunedin The University of Oklahoma golf team opened up a fourstroke lead over New Zealand after the first round of the 54hole international contest on the Chisholm Park links yesterday.
Strong north-easterly winds and hard fairways made scoring difficult and only Gary Radka (New Zealand) and Grant Waite (Oklahoma) managed to break par with one under 70s.
Greg Turner (Oklahoma) and Brent Paterson (New Zealand) finished one over par on 72 while New Zealand's lefthanded professional, Bob Charles, scored 73.
The lowest six scores from the ,'pine-strong Oklahoma team/gave a total of 439 - an
average of almost 73.2 strokes a player. The only consolation for local supporters was that the lowest two Oklahoma rounds were scored by former New Zealand representatives.
