Bilger’s two wins in P class yachts
PA Tauranga Kohimaramara’s Jon Bilger yesterday scored two wins in the Tauranga Cup national P class yachting series to become the outright leader with only' one race to go. Yesterday’s first race was delayed for nearly an hour because of unsettled wind conditions in Tauranga harbour and it was Bilger who made the best start and then was never headed.
Light winds . of between five and seven knots again favoured the lighter contestants, allowing Brad Jackson (Buckland’s Beach) to finish second, followed by Napier’s
Glen Coulam. Coulam, with two wins compared to Bilger’s three, is the only serious challenger to Bilger after provisional results were announced last evening. Stronger winds, estimated at 18 knots, from the northwest in the afternoon, favoured the heavier boys and series platings in the middle order changed dramatically. Jarrod Kriletich (Point Chevalier) finished second to Bilger, followed by Ross Bannan (Blockhouse Bay). The series concludes with one race today with the promise of fine weather but light winds.
