Trade framework exists
PA Wellington Members of a recent high-powered trade mission of New Zealand business leaders to Britain have decided that little or no benefit would be gained from the setting up of a further group to co-ordinate its aims. The mission members met in Wellington and in a statement say that the framework for co-ordinating the aims already exists
through the Chambers of Commerce and other institutions to assist those who must now take the initiative — individual entrepreneurs within the private sector. The mission’s leader, Mr Ron Trotter, chairman of Fletcher Challenge, said a twin chamber relationship between the Wellington and London chambers was the first tangible result of the success of the visit, and another step would be a
British trade mission to New Zealand next October. The managing director of Yates Corporation, Mr P. S. Yates, said the mission from Britain should consist of a vital ingredient in trade — the middle manager, who was a new breed of British businessman who could see New Zealand as it was today and not the obscured view that perhaps existed in the minds of some established traders.
