Schoolboy drove in his sleep
NZPA-AAP London A schoolboy, aged 15, drove his father’s car 43km — in his sleep. The “Daily Express” newspaper reported that the boy, who had never driven a car before, went to sleep in his Portsmouth home and woke jip behind the wheel of the car in Southampton city centre at 8.10 p.m. Still wearing pyjamas and dressing gown, he telephoned his father from a public booth. His father believed he was still asleep in his bed.
“We were suspicious, but the boy’s story checked out,” said a police spokesman. “He has a history of sleepwalking.” A university researcher said it was possible for someone to drive while asleep. “Some people even hold sensible conversations,” he said.
The police said that the boy would not be prosecuted for motoring offences.
