Ling-Ling, America’s only female giant panda, was responding yesterday to antibiotic treatment for kidney failure, and veterinarians decided that a kidney dialysis machine standing by was not needed to save her.
“We are encouraged by what we saw in her blood chemistry,” said Michael Morgan, spokesman for the National Zoo. “Her red blood-count has improved.” Ling-Ling, which is 14, was found earlier this week to be suffering from kidney failure and severe anaemia.
