Nisbet comfortable 8000 m winner

Jamie Nisbet, the Healing Papanui cyclist, recorded a comfortable win in the open 8000 m scratch race, the feature event at the Canterbury Cycling Association's track meeting at Denton Park on Wednesday evening.

Nisbet, who has been nominated for the national pursuit team for the Los Angeles Olympics, did not ride at the South Island championships last Saturday, but held out Steve Wood's challenge quite comfortably on Wednesday. William Rastrick. who was late getting clear of the bunch, finished third. Steve Doherty, the Hornby professional, was a clear winner of the open A grade 3000 m group handicap from Woods and Greg Cox, a former Canterbury representative. Their handicaps of 200 m proved too much for the scratch riders to match.

Rastrick was not pressed to win the 450 m spring from Andrew Macbeth, in his first season of open racing, and Murray Steele.
