Three scouts from the Canterbury area (from left), Wayne Thompson, aged 12 (Wainoni Scout Troop), Blair Henwood, aged 14 (Avonside Scout Troop), Michael Ahearn, aged 14 (Woolston Scout Troop), in the scout uniform used just after World War I. They were on their way to a weekend camp at Woodend on the site of the first official scout camp to be held in New Zealand, in 1908. The uniforms were made in 1981 by the wardrobe mistress for the “Gang Show,” Mrs Pat Ellis, of Christchurch. The camp is part of the celebrations being held in Canterbury to mark the seventy-fifth anniversary of the scouting movement in New Zealand.
