World ‘record’ set in veterans’ 200 m
Two Canterbury athletes performed with distinction at the recent South Island veterans championships at Dunedin.
Shirley Peterson (Technical) broke the world’s best mark in the women’s 55 years 200 m, but because there was only one stop-watch working and no wind reading taken, the time of 30.3 s was not ratified as an official record. Peterson also won the 100 m, javelin, and long jump. Malcolm Fraser (Toe H) was unbeaten in sprint races up to and including 800 m in the men’s 40 years section. A total of 105 athletes participated.
