Kindergarten jobs few—association
PA Wellington One hundred kindergarten teachers will graduate from college this week and will all be struggling to find a job, says the Kindergarten Teachers’ Association. The association’s national president, Ms Jean Pearson, said that fewer jobs were being advertised and forecasts were gloomy. She knew of only one or two who had already secured a job for next year. However, many appointments were yet to be made anrYit was too early to tell
how many would face unemployment in 1984, she said. Proposals had been put to the Education Department in a bid to solve the job problems, but these could not be revealed. “The problems have been caused by the retention rate,” she said. “People are staying in their jobs longer and longer.” Prospects for the 100 students who graduate this week were worse than last year, when 60 fajled to secure a job. -
