Petition seeks cardiac unit
A petition calling on the Government to consider urgently the setting up of a cardiac unit in Christchurch is circulating in Rangiora. Mr Alfred Clack began collecting signatures for his petition yesterday in his shop, Pisces Aquarium, in Victoria Street. He intends to spend two hours each evening next week walking the streets of Rangiora to collect signatures.
Two businesses in Christchurch have given Mr Clack support for his petition and he intends to visit them this week-end to give them copies of the petition, which, may also be available in some Rangiora businesses. Mr Clack decided ta start the petition after theSdeath
of a very close friend, Mr Stuart Robinson, who died after a mercy dash to Green Lane Hospital in Auckland for emergency open-heart surgery. Mrs Robinson was the first to sign the petition, saying she was delighted that something was being done to try to establish a heart unit in Christchurch, said Mr Clack. Mr Clack is also considering visiting members of Parliament in Christchurch to seek their support, but is finding that there is not enough time to do this by himself because of his business commitments. He has approached the member of Parliament for Rangiora, Mr D. F. Quigley.
