Christchurch A clear in bowls
The Christchurch A team was the overnight leader with 16 points after the first three rounds of the zone three elimination of the women’s bowls intercentre tournament at Papanui yesterday. Only Nelson, on 13 points, seems to have much chance of overhauling the top local team when the final two rounds are played today. The points of the other four teams are Christchurch B 8, Marlborough 7, West Coast 6, and Buller 4. Christchurch A sufferd just the one loss yesterday. This was in the first round pairs when the former New Zealand representative, Lex Kimber, was suprisingly beaten, 28-8, by Margaret Broad of the second Christchurch team. However, the Christchurch A singles player, Alice Whiting, and the four skipped by Agnes Beazley were in excellent form all day, and they won nearly all their games comfortably.
