PA Wellington The Governor-General, Sir David Beattie, advised by letter appropriation for a series of bills when Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. They were they Arms, Coalmines Amendment, Companies Amendment (No. 2), Customs Act Amendment (No. 2), District Courts Amendment, Income Tax Amendment (No. 3), National Provident Amendment, Stamp and Cheque Duties Amendment, and the War Pensions bills. Four petitions were tabled asking the House to reject the State Services Conditions of Employment Amendment Bill. The petitions were presented by Mr M. E. C. Cox (Nat., Manawatu) on behalf of Brian Tapper and 742 others; by Miss Ruth Richardson (Nat., Selwyn) on behalf of Frank Alistair O’Connell and 653 others; by Mr M. J. Minogue (Nat., Hamilton West) on behalf of David Michael Quill and 74 others; and by Mr G. E. Lee (Nat., Hauraki) on behalf of Murray Andrew Stirling and 70 others. Members gave eight notices of motion. The Speaker, Sir Richard Harrison, disallowed an urgent question by Mr J. L. Hunt (Lab., New Lynn) on when property mortgage interest rate regulations would be printed.

Ministers answered 20 questions. The chairman of the Parliamentary committee studying the Industrial Law Reform Bill, Mr C. B. Townshend (Nat., Kaimai) answered one question.
