Jump jockey dies
NZPA East Berlin One of East Germany’s leading jockeys, Juergen Szydzik, has died after a steeplechase accident in Dresden on October 30. Szydzik, aged 40, who rode more than 700 flat and steeplechase winners in his career, died from injuries suffered in a fall from his mount Hengst Cauto.
He was three times East German steeplechase champion and led the competition this year.
