Basketball tournament
Thirty-nine teams — 24 women’s and 15 men’s — will take part over three days, starting today, at the annual Christchurch United invitation basketball tournament at Cowles Stadium. Qualifying rounds start this morning and the finals will be held on Monday. The tournament caters for minor grades.
Sixteen visiting teams will play in the women’s entry, including sides from Nelson, Westland, Ashburton, Waimate, Oamaru and Mosgiel. Eight of the men’s teams are from outside Christchurch. Tomorrow a lunch-time shoot-out will be held. The competition will be held from the half-way mark and prizes given.
