Roydon Magic scores
Roydon Magic extended an already sound record for consistency when he came from near the tail of the field at the 800 m to win the Bakano Handicap at Addington Raceway last evening.
The race was run at a rousing clip and Roydon Magic paced the 2600 m in 3min 22.35. Roydon Magic moved up three wide from the 800 m and held the favourite, family Fun, by a length at the line. Family Fun, last at the 700 m, did well for second, a short length in front of a strong finisher in Castle Del, which recorded a fine trial for the Greymouth meeting on Monday. Knowing Charlie, wide for the last 800 m, was almost in line with Castle Del, with only a head to Wee Junior, which rushed to the front at the 800 m. Macawave was a fair sixth.
The second favourite, Steady Edition, was in front from the start, with Wee Junior joining him near the 1200 m. Steady Edition dropped right away over the final stages and finished a dismal tenth, three places behind Best Dream, which was slow away and covered much extra ground.
