Lynvari not starting
Special correspondent Dunedin Lynvari and Young Nick have been scratched from their engagements at the Geraldine meeting on Saturday. Young Nick was scratched because of a wide barrier draw. His trainer, Bob Heasley, felt the opposition in the Phar Lap Handicap was too strong for Lynvari. Leisure Lass, an outside chance in the Geraldine Challenge Stakes, put dash into her work at Wingatui Tuesday morning. She was at speed just after passing the 800 m peg on the sand and ran her last 600 m in 37.85.
Leisure Lass should be capable of extending her winning record at short notice, although her trainer, Jim Pankhurst, believes she will be better as a four-year-old next season when she has developed further. Pinafore, wearing blinkers, led My Guard and Grenoble after 800 m in 51s, the last 600 m in 38.65. A wide draw could count against her in the Challenge Stakes. Her performance will determine if she is tried in blinkers at a later date. Bold Ambassador, My Anui, and Aprani returned 51.6 s for 800 m, the last 600 m in 38.55. Toddy Malone and Brazen Belle clocked 52.6 s for 800 m, the closing 600 m in 40s.
