Resignations of Labour M.P.s

Sir, — Mr Lange’s attempt to dismiss lightly the resignation of two of his supporters in caucus, is as unconvincing as his other claim that Mr Jim Anderton will be a loyal and disciplined back-bencher. Labour has now lost the initiative in the House with two former members probably voting against it. At the next election Labour appears certain to be fighting at least four independants. With the Anderton faction in caucus now considered to outnumber the Lange faction, Mr Lange is in an impossible position with no unity, no policy and no certainty that if elected as Prime Minister he will not be pushed overboard by the Anderton faction. — Yours, etc., J. F. GARVEY. September 28, 1983.
