Urban transport area objections
Four territorial authorities had formally objected to the Canterbury United Council’s proposed ' urban transport area when objections closed at 4 p.m. yesterday. The secretary of the United Council, Mr E. P. Maguire, said that objections had been received from the Rangiora District Council, the Eyre County Council, the Kaiapoi Borough Council, and the Malvern County Council. A submission objecting to the area had also been received from Rangiora Borough, Kaiapoi and Districts Soroptomists Inter-
national. The Ellesmere County Council, the Paparua County Council, the Riccarton Borough Council, and the Christchurch City Council had earlier said they would not oppose the urban transport area. A submission of support had also been received from the Christchurch Transport Board, although the board had said it would have preferred the proposed, area to have been larger, Mr Maguire said.
All territorial authorities within this area now have two months to make submissions on any of the objections.
