Eleven on charges

PA Auckland Eleven people appeared in the District Court at Auckland yesterday charged in connection with an incident in which a police car was burnt out at Pukekohe on Saturday night. Their ages ranged from 17 to 35 years. One defendant was charged with possession of an offensive weapon, a knife, in circumstances that showed an intention to use it.

The remainder were charged with being members of an unlawful assembly in Birdwood Place.

All pleaded not guilty. Judge J. R. Aubin remanded four in custody to appear on September 28 in the District Court at Pukekohe. The remainder were remanded on bail to appear in that court on October 4.

Two girls, aged 16, were to appear in the Children and Young Persons Court on the unlawful assembly charge.
