Bagrie Cup boxing
Canterbury boxers have a good chance of retaining the Bagrie Cup when they meet Southland at Invercargill in their annual tournament tomorrow. The team is Fred Faalesi, Kerry White, Karl Blythe, (Barry’s gymnasium), Henry Schuster, Colin Adamson and Kerry Hita (Woolston Working Men’s Club): Brent Davey and Allan Cannon (Crichton’s) and Nick Adams (Papanui).
White, Blythe, Adamson and Hita are all juniors. Going on form from the national championships in Timaru, Adamson, the 3436kg junior titleholder, and Henry Schuster, the super heavyweight champion, should both have little trouble against their southern opponents. However, much interest will centre on Fred Faalesi’s fights. So far he is unbeaten from seven matches.
